DAL CHANA DRY-FRY Recipe
Ingredients :
Dal chana (split grams) 1 1/2 cups
Red chilli powder 1 tsp
Coriander powder 1 tsp
Chana masaala powder 1/2 tsp
Chopped ginger 1 root piece
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Curry leaves 8-10
Cinnamon (pounded) 1 piece
Salt 1 1/2 tsps
Ghee 3 tbsps
Curd 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
Garam masaala powder 1/2 tsp
Chopped tomatoes 1/2 cup
Chopped onions 1/2 cup
Asafoetida 1 pinch
Cloves 2
Green chillies (chopped) 2
Coriander greens (chopped) 1 tbsp
Method :
Clean and wash dal. Keep it soaked in water for 4-5 hours
Put dal in cooker with a little fresh water. Pressure cook for a whistle. Remove from stove and let the steam off. Strain if there is water. Retain the water
Mix red chilli powder, salt, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masaala and chana masaala in curd. Mix well and set aside
Heat ghee in sauce pan. Crackle cumin seeds. Add cloves, cinnamon and curry leaves. Fry for a while
Add ginger, asafoetida and onion. Fry for 3-4 minutes more. Put in strained dal and tomatoes. Fry till ghee separates from rest of the stuff
Now add curd-mix. Stir cook to dry up liquids
When dal looks dry garnish with green chillies and coriander greens
Serve hot with roti, chapati or baati. Will be fine with rice too
